Max Hopp, born in 1972 in East Berlin (Germany), studied at the "Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch" in Berlin after graduating from high school.

Early Career and Theater Engagements
He began his career in 1995 at the Theater Bremen with "Perchik" in "Fiddler on the Roof." This was followed by engagements at the "Schauspielhaus Hamburg" and "Schauspielhaus Zürich," the "Münchner Kammerspiele," and the "Salzburger Festspiele."

Volksbühne Ensemble Member
From 2005, he was a member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. "Berlin Alexanderplatz" (directed by Frank Castorf), "Prometheus" (directed by Dimiter Gotscheff), and "Wozzeck" (directed by David Marton) are among his most important works here.

Artistic Home at Komische Oper Berlin
In 2010, Hopp performed for the first time in a production at the "Komische Oper Berlin" ("White Horse Inn," Kellner Leopold, directed by Sebastian Baumgarten).
Since then, this house has been his artistic home. Productions such as "My Fair Lady" (Higgins, directed by Andreas Homoki) or the "Barry Kosky" productions "Eine Frau, die weiß, was sie will" (as a 2-person play) and "Fiddler on the Roof" (Tevye) are still part of the repertoire of the house.
The most recent collaboration between Kosky and Hopp is "Orphée aux enfers," which, after its premiere in Salzburg (2019), can also be seen at the Komische Oper Berlin.

Upcoming US Debut
In the summer of 2025, Max Hopp will make his US debut, playing the lead role (Tevye) in "Fiddler on the Roof" at the Cincinnati Opera, directed by Crystal Manich.

Directorial Work
In 2019, Max Hopp directed for the first time at the Theater Hildesheim. With this successful production of a previously unknown Offenbach operetta ("Die Prinzessin von Trapezunt"), he opened up a new, passionate field of activity, followed by further directing work at the "Staatstheater Mainz" ("Zanaida" by Johann Christian Bach) and Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte" in Lucerne (2021).
In 2022, his production of "Barkouf" (Opéra bouffe by Jacques Offenbach) at the Opernhaus Zürich also marked his international breakthrough. The successful American soprano Brenda Rae sang the leading role of "Maima" in this production.

In the 2024/25 season, Hopp directed the musical "Silk Stockings" by Cole Porter at the Oper Graz.
​Film and Television
Max Hopp regularly appears in cinema, streaming, and TV productions and works with internationally renowned directors such as Fatih Akin, Christian Schwochow, Lars Kraume, and Oliver Hirschbiegel.
His first international production was in 2008, "Speed Racer" - alongside Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, and Susan Sarandon - an American action comedy film by Lana & Lilly Wachowski.

Max Hopp is a co-founder of the Berlin nootheater, an artists' collective that has produced and released not only a variety of theater and radio plays but also 2 award-winning essay films - "The Enchanting Light of Utopia" and "Morgenröte im Aufgang - Hommage à Jacob Böhme."
